Remembering Glenn Gould Twenty Interviews With People Who Knew Him
This interview took place in Hamilton's downtown Toronto apartment on March 31, 2011. In this audio-clip he recalls the first time he met Gould, at the studio of their piano teacher, Alberto Guerrero.
Stuart Hamilton: a Portrait of the Young Artist
Stuart Hamilton was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, in 1929, and moved to Toronto to study piano with Alberto Guerrero — who was also Glenn Gould's teacher. From 1967 to 1971 he appeared in recitals as a solo pianist, in New York, London and throughout Canada. Subsequently, he rose to musical prominence in Toronto as a vocal coach and accompanist, working with many of Canada's leading singers. He was also the founder of Toronto's Opera in Concert company, which he directed from 1974 to 1994. As well, his voice became known across Canada for his work on the CBC Saturday Afternoon at the Opera radio broadcasts.
